Why the change in venue?

Our decision to change locations may come as a surprise to our regular attendees and be assured that our Board did not make this decision lightly, nor in haste. Our move from hosting our annual conference at the regular Doubletree in Claremont, CA, to one of our local community colleges was made with a few factors:
Keeping Your Costs to a Minimum - We know many of our colleagues are feeling budget crunches in your departments, conference and travel budgets, and across the state in general. Hosting this at one of our colleges helps us significantly cut registration costs. Our goal is to lower registration costs by nearly 20% while also improving your conference experience.
Keeping Dollars Within the California Community College System – We without a doubt appreciate our partners at the Doubletree Hotel. However, hosting our conference at one of our community colleges provides an opportunity to re-funnel registration dollars directly back into our community college system instead of corporate bank accounts. As a non-profit dedicated to the community college system, we believe this is in line with our core values.
Sharing Campus Spaces and Networking – Hosting at a college creates a unique opportunity for conference attendees to explore other college spaces, starting with Mt. SAC. We hope this leads to a healthy exchange of ideas, inspiration by the work of others, breaking down silos, and building bridges across campuses.
Immersing Ourselves in Our Why – Students are, ultimately, the reason we do what we do. Our Board believes this could be a great opportunity to hold our conference during the Fall semester—right in the middle of our students’ energy and activity—and let that environment motivate and inspire us throughout the event.
A Glance at the Facilities
Mt. SAC’s Summit Center sits on the third floor of the Student Center at the heart of campus. This location has state-of-the-art audio and visual services, a professional and dedicated event staff, seating and standing room for all eventgoers, several restrooms, bottle filling stations, and a small convenience store on the first floor. We’ve included a few pictures below for a quick preview!

FAQs
We understand that you may have many questions, so we thought of a few of them ahead of time and provided answers below:
I normally stay at a hotel. Are there any nearby?
Yes. We will be providing a list of nearby locations, one of which will have reduced rates for 4CPD conference attendees on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Are those hotels within Uber, Lyft, or cab distance?
Yes. There are three within a 10-minute ride.
Are any of those hotels within walking distance?
Unfortunately, no. But, we have a solution to that (keep reading).
Are there any other transportation methods to Mt. SAC?
Yes! We are working with our local partner and this year's Leadership Excellence Sponsor, Gold Coast Tours, to provide an optional, no‑cost shuttle service for conference attendees who are staying at one of the local hotels (tbd). The shuttle will run twice in the morning and once in the afternoon on October 14th and 15th between the conference venue and hotel. You will be able to reserve your shuttle seat during the registration process. (Note that this is a new feature, and its availability may change.)
If you are driving yourself, you may park onsite. More details on parking availability and logistics will be arriving at your inbox soon!
Will there be a preconference?
We're certainly planning for one!
A 20% cut in registration costs?
Yes, and without removing any services or amenities that you are already used to - other than on-site lodging.
What is the registration rate this year?
We thought it’d be safe to communicate our goals for registration cuts before we have a solid number. However, our estimate is around $625 early bird registration - plus any third-party transactional fees (sorry!).
When will registration open?
We plan on opening for early-bird registration no later than July 1, 2026. We want to help you get your conference/travel requests in as soon as possible for the new fiscal year!
Are you inviting proposals for breakout sessions and presenters?
Yes! Our call for proposals is scheduled to be sent to our subscriber base at the end of April.
When will you have your Agenda at a Glance?
Very soon!
Please keep an eye out for upcoming updates, including our Agenda at a Glance, Call for Proposals, and Early‑Bird Registration. Updates will be sent out via email and be reflected on our new 4CPD Events Page. In the meantime, feel free to pass this along to any friends or colleagues who may be interested. We look forward to connecting with you and seeing you in October, 2026!
